PBF Energy is one of the largest independent petroleum refiners and manufacturers of petroleum products in the United States. This “next generation” energy company recruits results-focused people with initiative to develop their refineries while staying committed to the preservation of the environment, and devoted to producing clean energy.
PBF Energy was launching a program to focus on development of mid-career associates. The Leader’s Evolution designed dynamic workshops that were a foundational element of the Development Program.


Challenges
PBF’s commitment to employee development identified gaps of leadership skills in technically proficient engineers advancing in their careers
They recognized that mid-career engineers needed to be stronger at communication, collaboration, and partnering with others
Solution
- The Leader’s Evolution performed diagnostic interviews with program sponsors to determine key areas of need and learning focus.
- Each individual in the learning cohort was administered a behavioral assessment, and provided a 1 to 1 coaching session to explain the behavioral assessment and its implications.
- TLE led a dynamic half day workshop on Day 1 of PBF’s Development Program to enhance self awareness and application of the learning in groups
PBF Energy’s Mid-Career Engineers were quickly able to adopt the learnings and build stronger relationships across their peer group
Associates returned to their day-to-day work groups with renewed confidence and a specific action plan to improve collaboration and teamwork
